Report
The event launched on May 6 at the Goethe Institute in Budapest with a dedicated team of approximately thirty volunteers. Members of Ringier Hungary and the Wikimedia Hungary Association supported the preparation by compiling a curated list of notable women who are either entirely absent from Wikipedia, or whose entries are incomplete or in need of significant revision.
As part of Hungary’s first EqualVoice Edit-a-thon, over thirty new or substantially expanded articles were contributed to the Hungarian-language Wikipedia. These entries highlighted the achievements of women such as Barbara Hámori, film producer; Viktória Szilasi, athlete and entrepreneur; Edina Heal, digital expert and advocate for business and gender equality; Dia Nyári, actress; Dr. Katalin Sulyok, international and climate law expert; and Adél Zay, a pioneering feminist educator from early 20th-century Transylvania. In accordance with Wikipedia’s editorial standards, these new articles will be published following review by the editorial community.
The program formed part of a broader international initiative: in parallel with the Budapest event, EqualVoice Edit-a-thons were also held in Zurich, Davos, and Chur, coordinated by the Ringier media group and its professional partners. Across the four European cities, more than 100 participants created close to 90 new Wikipedia entries within just a few hours.
