Report
Swisscham Hungary, in cooperation with the Embassy of Switzerland, recently organized a special walking tour in Budapest for our members and the representatives of the media to highlight the visible and symbolic presence of Switzerland in the Hungarian capital.
The tour began at the Swiss owned Arioso Café & Brunch, where participants connected informally before visiting the Carl Lutz Memorial in Dob utca, dedicated to the Swiss diplomat who courageously saved thousands during WWII.
Our next stop was Ungaro Swiss, a Hungarian-Swiss watch retailer that reflects Swiss precision and heritage. The two storey shop is also a Zsolnay boutique.
We continued our walk to Városháza Park, where the outdoor exhibition “Switzerland in Budapest” was officially opened in the presence of Mayor Gergely Karácsony and Ambassador Jean-François Paroz. The exhibition presents various historical sites linked to Swiss figures and institutions — including a dedicated poster about Swisscham Hungary, celebrating our 30-year commitment to Swiss–Hungarian business cooperation.
Following the opening, we explored the Lindt boutique on Fashion Street along with sweet treats, the legendary Gerbeaud Coffee House founded by Swiss confectioner Emil Gerbeaud, and had a tasty coffee at Nespresso Boutique on Andrássy Avenue.
The event concluded with a reception and a tour with informal networking at Hotel Oktogon Haggenmacher, a beautifully restored building with Swiss roots. We learned a lot during this afternoon about Swiss heritage and connection in the city.
The walking tour offered a meaningful opportunity to rediscover the Swiss contributions to Budapest’s cultural and economic landscape — past and present.
The “Switzerland in Budapest” exhibition is open to visitors at Városháza Park until 5 June. Don’t miss it!
We would like to thank all the partners who warmly welcomed us and spoiled us with delicious treats and surprises.
