Electrification, hydrogen and sustainable fuels - competitors or complementary?

Achieving net-zero CO₂ emissions by 2050 requires a complete phase-out of fossil fuels, a point on which there is broad consensus. However, there is less agreement on the pathways to reach this goal. To understand the development of renewable-energy-powered vehicles, it is essential to understand the advantages and disadvantages of their key subsystems, the supportive or challenging interactions with the broader renewable energy landscape, and the availability of the necessary infrastructure.
