Ringier Hungary announces a unique initiative, and our chamber is happy to join as a partner.
On May 6, the Edit-a-thorn event will take place, which aims to improve the representation of women on Wikipedia as part of a joint editing marathon.
EqualVoice - More visible on Wikipedia is the launch of our edit-a-thon event. Our goal is to improve the representation of women in one of the most important encyclopedias on the Internet.
Wikipedia is the primary target for millions of people looking for information, but only 20% of articles are about women. On the Hungarian Wikipedia, this proportion is even lower: only 15.6% of the Hungarian articles feature important women who make a lasting impression.
The underrepresentation of women has a profound impact on their social perception and reinforces stereotypes. Having more women on Wikipedia not only helps to move towards equal opportunities, but also allows for a balanced representation of human knowledge, its contributors, and society as a whole.
So this is not just an issue for women. Join us and let's create new articles together on the first EqualVoice edit-a-thon in Budapest!
The volunteers of the Hungarian Wikipedia team will help us with the preliminary preparation and on site.
